I love working with windows server actually is one of my favorite servers to work with I currently use it inside my home office environment as my domain controller for my network. Utilizing Active Directory and using it to control user access onto my network and I setup Group policies on it.
Currently for the time being I am using window NFS on the server at the moment and using GPO for software deployment, which both are outdated and problematic
Windows NFS does not work with user is not connected onto the internal network, also software deployment using GPO is problematic. My reason why GPO software deployment is problematic is because since the software deployment happens only as the user is logging into the machine. If there is ever a problem with the software deployment it will be difficult to troubleshoot where the problem had taken place
The solution I am currently working on is using a next cloud solution as the NFS utilizing it to allow both windows and linux pcs to be to access the NFS on the cloud. Since I am currently using both windows and linux pcs in my environment currently the linux machines cannot access the windows NFS neither the domain controller which making this change would be a very good thing for my environment. Working to get proper communication between both active directory and linux would be very helpful for user management on the linux machine as well
But Eventually I am planning on using the hyper V as well for my 2nd lab environment.
